Color Code Fall 2014: Rust and Teal

Look out for two great color trends this fall 2014. Both rust and teal were huge on the runaway and will give any fall collection some extra decadence!

Animal Instinct: Fall 2014 Runway Trend Recap

Animal print can be a great way to spice up any fashion lovers closet. Whether its cheetah or snake, fall 2014 will be filled with clean, simple, not overly elaborate animal prints.

Naturally colored leopards, ocelot prints in grays, black and white, as well as neutrals were seen from Emilio Pucci and Zimmerman.

Skins are seen in not only grays and neutrals but in bold colors like Dsquared2 showed on the runway.

Mixing the animal with menswear inspired prints, bright splashes of color, and fading in to solids give the classic look a fun and vibrant twist!

Retail Trend Roundup

Textured prints are very seasonless, making it an extremely wearable look, seen not only on the runway but in high end and mass market retailers as well.

Sure enough we are seeing it make a comeback for fall. Small scale, brush stroke, mark making techniques and painterly etched line work can be seen in anywhere from Zara, Kenzo, and Rag & Bone.

Karen Millen and Helmut Lang are both showing that black and white texture is not going anywhere and should be a staple in everyone’s collection. Great alternatives to basic textures would be gradient layouts or engineered color placement.

Damask Done Modern!

Here at the stylecouncil Damask prints have been a great way for us to transition into Fall ’15. Using rich colors mixed with textured, faded, and distressed motifs gives the traditional damask an updated feel. Ombre and watercolor grounds have also been a fun way to spice up the classic print.
At the opening of the Wintour Costume Center, Michelle Obama, seen in Naeem Khan, and Emily Rafferty, a MET employee, were both dressed in Damask. Looks like Anna Wintour gave her seal of approval!

Whether you are picking up great damask at Swell or Mango for the summer, or you use it to transition into fall, as seen on the runway from Paul Smith and M. Missioni, it will be a great lux and sophisticated addition to your wardrobe.

Summer Tribal Trends take Coachella!

Coachella: The ultimate music festival that takes place yearly in Indio, California. It may be a time to celebrate art and music but it’s also one of the biggest fashion shows of the year.

Tribal was trending throughout, whether it was on a great pair of shorts, a flowing maxi dress, or vibrant headwear. We've seen it done in black and white, neons, and pastels, on women and teens.

Here at stylecouncil we have been using different techniques to showcase our take on tribal. Our favorites have been done with neon accents, dip dye technique, and painterly watercolor feel.
